Learning French

Science Accueil offers French lessons for international scientists studying or working in France, as well as their families.

Regular classes are held twice a week throughout the semester, promoting steady and long-term learning. The focus is on oral expression, thanks to small groups and immersive lessons.
Courses take place in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, encouraging speaking and conversational French practice. At-home exercises provide further practice beyond class time.
Two sessions are offered each year: from October to February, and from March to early July.
All our teachers are qualified and experienced in teaching French as a Foreign Language, and groups are available for different levels.

We offer five levels or programs designed to match different skill levels. Participants are placed into appropriate groups based on the results of an online placement test:

• Beginner: you have just arrived in France and have little to no knowledge of the French language
• False Beginner: you have basic knowledge of French and would like to gain confidence in speaking
• Pre-intermediate: you have a basic command of French and would like to deepen your knowledge
• Intermediate: you can express your ideas clearly and in detail but would like to speak more fluently in conversation
• Advanced: you have a strong command of French and would like to perfect your skills in the language of Molière

You want to make rapid progress in French over a short period of time?
Semi-intense summer courses are organised in July and in September to get ready for the start of the academic year. 8 to 10 hours of lessons per week with a qualified professor which will cater their programme to the group’s level and specific requests. You will receive a certificate of attendance at the end of the course.

French summer course in July :

• 24 hours of lessons in total
• In-person
• Over 3 weeks, Monday through Friday, in the evening
• In small groups
• End of course party

French summer course in September, before the start of the academic year, online and for beginners only :

• 16 hours in total
• Online
• Over 2 weeks, Monday through Friday, in the evening
• In small groups
