Castle life through the ages

Take a trip back in time for a day, in Chevreuse valley, between history and nature!

First stop: the Middle Ages. Discover the beautiful village of Chevreuse, and climb up to the château de la Madeleine, an 11th-century fortress overlooking the entire Chevreuse valley.

Second stop: the 17th century. Head to the château de Breteuil, a unique place that is still inhabited by the same family, where Perrault’s fairy tales characters meet the greatest names in the history of France.

Programme:

  • 9:15 a.m. – Meeting point at the RER B train station Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse.
  • 9:30 a.m. – Walk along the Coubertin estate and the Ecosse Bouton stream.
  • 10 a.m. – Refreshing break with a local artisanal drink (to be confirmed)
  • 10:15 a.m. – With a tour guide, discover of the medieval town of Chevreuse. Climb in the footsteps of the famous writer Jean Racine to the Madeleine medieval castle.
  • 12:15 p.m. – Private bus ride to the castle of Breteuil.
  • 1 p.m. – Picnic (please bring your own) in the magnificent park of the domain.
  • 2 p.m. – Visit the magnificently furnished Breteuil castle with a tour guide and dive into the history of the Breteuil family – a French nobility family at the heart of French and European history.
  • 4 p.m. –  Explore the park (remarkable trees, several gardens, a maze, a medieval dovecote, Perrault’s fairy tales brought to life in the outbuilding)
  • 5 p.m. – Back to the train staton in Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse

(includes : guided tour of Chevreuse and château de la Madeleine, journey with a private coach, ticket to the château de Breteuil and guided tour with access to the gardens)
